WCC students who are the first in their family to attend college may not think of Vassar College, the famous liberal arts school in Poughkeepsie, NY, as within their reach. Not so, according to Robin Graff, of the Transfer division of the WCC Counseling Department. She has announced the availability of 5-week summer sessions at Vassar that are completely open and free for under-represented populations.
The scholarships, which cover all expenses–tuition, board, and books–are sponsored by the Exploring Transfer (ET) Program, which has been introducing community college students to the possibility of transferring to 4-year residential liberal arts institutions for over three decades.
Prof. Graff is enthusiastic about this opportunity and says the students she has sent to Vassar in previous years “have had the time of their lives.” The program is specifically designed to favor those who have been historically cut off from the opportunity to attend high-end colleges.
