Farewells and New Beginnings

It is a bittersweet moment for us as we sit in the basement of the student center, surrounded by current and future editors while this final editorial with our last newspaper together. So many hours were spent in this space, brainstorming ideas, struggling to hit our 500 word minimum, and eating Chinese food on late production nights.

We won’t miss the sleepless nights trying scrape together stories to fill these pages. But we will miss the community we have built during our term as co-Editors in Chief. The times and conversations that were shared and the joy of seeing students, faculty, staff, and administration alike carrying our paper, our work, in their travels.

In the last year, we have had the privilege to grow with this campus and contribute in meaningful ways. We have gotten to know each other and our team creating a harmonious, fast-paced working environment for this publication in which we were able to strive personally and professionally.

We are confident to say that this leadership experience has prepared us for whatever is next and we could not be more grateful to the campus community for extending open arms to us. Our advisors have created a comprehensive support system for our organization which truly set us up for success during our time as students and for the future.

The Viking News has given us first hand experience for the field of journalism. It has also allowed us an environment where it was okay to try new things, fail, and try again.

In the end, we will look back proudly at what we have achieved as a team. Closing this chapter of our lives we now move forward to achieve new goals and horizons.

But as we say farewell to our time with this paper we hope that WCC extends the same courtesies we were afforded to the next generation of this organization. Be it scathing letters to the editor, to pitching stories, or sending wayward students to our office, we know that Garrison Marschner and his editorial board will take this paper to new heights and we cannot wait to see what they achieve.
