WCC Bowler Lands Fourth Place for Weekend Competition

Bowlers compete in back-to-back competitions in New York.

The Westchester Community College Men’s Bowling team enjoyed another fine weekend of competition, this time at the two-day Westchester Shootout event. On Saturday, January 27, the Vikings competed in East Fishkill, New York, while on Sunday, WCC traveled to Wappingers, New York to complete the competition.

As has been the case for the entire season, the duo of Matthew Rice (Lagrangeville, NY/Arlington HS) and Joseph Salierno (Yonkers, NY/Salesian) led the way for WCC, finishing Saturday with a 154.33 and 154.17 average, respectively. Rice had a particularly strong day in singles action, placing 31st in a field of 90 bowlers as he knocked down 518 total pins.

On Sunday, Salierno enjoyed one of his finest performances of the season, finishing fourth in All Events, with a 190.33 average, while Rice placed 17th with a 168.67 average. The duo finished third in doubles play, knocking down 1,086 pins as a team. Overall, WCC finished in fourth place on Sunday, knocking down 5,688 total pins as a team. The Viking doubles team of Anthony Mignone (Scarsdale, NY/John Jay HS) and Michael Matthews (Bronx NY/Mount Saint Michael) also had a strong competition, finishing 14th among doubles teams with 932 total pins.

Westchester Community College returns to action this weekend as the Vikings travel to Schenectady, New York for Saturday’s Boulevard Bowling Invitation and Sunday’s Schenectady Tournament.
