WCC sophomore men’s soccer midfielder Joel Arevalo was voted the Mid-Hudson Conference Most Valuable Player.

This comes after an outstanding season where he led the Vikings to their third consecutive conference championship en route to an 8-5 overall record. Arevalo was one of six WCC men’s soccer players to earn All-Conference honors.

Arevalo started all 13 games for WCC, serving as Team Captain. He finished second on the team with nine goals and 32 points, while leading the Vikings with 14 assists.

His steady presence at the midfield was key for WCC’s transition game. He proved to be clutch during the Vikings’ biggest games of the season.

This included a two-assist performance during a 3-2 loss to Suffolk Community College in the Region XV Quarterfinals on Saturday. Arevalo’s honor highlighted a Mid-Hudson Conference All-Conference team loaded with Vikings.

Three WCC men’s soccer players earned first-team honors. Sophomore Jamar Gayle earned first-team All-Conference after leading WCC with 15 goals and 37 points.

Sophomore Luis Morales joined Gayle on the All-Conference first-team after notching two goals and 10 assists. Rounding out first-team All-Conference was freshman Miguel Perez, who added two goals and seven points on the season.

WCC also earned two second-team All-Conference members as freshman Mate Mgeladze and sophomore Ivan Ochoa were honored.  WCC ended the season undefeated against Mid-Hudson Conference competition.
